Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Inter-ethnic dialogue is essential for fostering peace, understanding, and social cohesion in multicultural societies. In Obi Local Government Area, where diverse ethnic groups coexist, communication barriers and cultural misunderstandings often lead to tension and conflict. Indigenous language broadcasting has emerged as a vital tool for promoting inter-ethnic dialogue by providing inclusive platforms for discussion and mutual understanding. As Aliyu and Onah (2024) note, broadcasting in indigenous languages enhances access to information, empowers marginalized communities, and fosters cultural integration. This study investigates how indigenous language broadcasting contributes to inter-ethnic dialogue in Obi, highlighting its role in peacebuilding and community development.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite efforts to promote harmony in Obi, inter-ethnic tensions persist, fueled by communication gaps and cultural biases.
